Medical Transportation


Medicaid covers both emergency and non-emergency transportation to and from a medical service with limitations.

Emergency Transportation
Program/Service description Emergency ambulance transportation (air and ground) is covered when medically necessary.
Who is eligible All fully eligible Medicaid and CHIP clients.
Where it is available Statewide
Who to contact Clients needing emergency transportation should call 911.
Non-Emergency Medical Transportation
Program/Service description Non-Emergency Medical Transportation (NEMT) is provided to and from a covered medical service. DMMA contracts for NEMT services with a transportation broker, Modivcare, Inc.
Who is eligible All fully eligible Medicaid and Delaware Healthy Children Program clients. 
Where it is available Statewide.

Transportation arrangements should be made no less than three days in advance of a scheduled appointment. Modivcare will verify that the recipient is Delaware Medicaid eligible and that transportation is required to a covered service. Once both criteria are confirmed, Modivcare will arrange for appropriate transportation to the covered medical service by one of their contracted transportation providers.
