Subject: Protective Actions

I.	PURPOSE
	These protective actions are meant for use as guidelines for professional environments
	(i.e. schools, hospitals, etc.) that utilize University of Delaware students in external
	practicum environments.

II.	PROCEDURE 
	Student nurses, early childhood, and elementary and secondary school teachers from
	the University of Delaware are permitted to engage in external practicum activities except
	in the following situations:

		- The student has been diagnosed with Swine influenza A.
		- The student has symptoms consistent with influenza-like illness.
		- The student is in a household or has been in close contact with a 
		  person with influenza-like illness.

	Close contact is defined as contact within 6 feet of an ill person who is a confirmed or
	suspected case of swine influenza A during the case's infectious period (one day prior to
	the case's onset until 7 days after onset).

	1. This policy becomes effective immediately.
	2. This policy supersedes all other policies, directives, or rules related to this subject.
