Sampling Liquid From a Porous Surface Using a Dry Gauze Swipe


Personnel           Task
Helper
  • 1a.  Opens the handle end of the forceps package
  • 1b.  Extends open package containing forceps to collector
Collector
  • 2a.  Grasps forceps handles and removes from packaging
Helper
  • 3a.  Opens the package containing the gauze swipe
  • 3b.  Extends open package containing gauze swipe to collector
Collector
  • 4a.  Grasps the gauze pad with forceps
  • 4b.  Presses swipe to wet porous surface
  • 4c.  Repeat several times if necessary to collect enough sample to dampen swipe
  • 4d.  Places swipe containing sample into vial
  • 4e.  Moves to sample decon area with vial containing swipe

  • 5a.  Sprays vial with disinfectant
Collector
  • 6a.  Checks to ensure vial is completely wetted
  • 6b.  Dries vial containing swipe with clean paper towel
Helper
  • 7a.  Opens clear zip bag to be used as secondary containment
Collector
  • 8a.  Places vial containing sample into clear zip bag
Helper
  • 9a.  Closes clear zip bag
  • 9b.  Fills out sample information label
  • 9c.  Places completed label on clear zip bag
  • 9d.  Places security seal on clear zip bag
  • 9e.  Transports sample through final decon
