Delaware Receives Funding for a Statewide Aging and Disability Resource Center


The Delaware Division of Services for Aging and Adults with Physical Disabilities (DSAAPD) is excited to announced that it has received a grant from the Administration on Aging to establish an Aging and Disability Resource Center (ADRC) in Delaware. The ADRC will provide a one-stop access point for information and services for older persons and adults with physical disabilities throughout the State.

Over the past several years ADRC's have been established in numerous locations across the country in an effort to assist older persons and persons with disabilities get connected with the services that they need.

DSAAPD was awarded $228,854 for the first year of a three-year ADRC implementation project. The grant was announced on September 29, 2009 went into effect on September 30, 2009.

During the first year of the project, DSAAPD will focus on laying the groundwork for the ADRC. Specific activities will include the installation of a state-of-the art call center; the development of computer systems; the construction of an ADRC web site with a searchable service database; the development of a web portal for service referrals; the preparation of outreach materials; and the establishment of contracts with community agencies for the provision of technical support.

DSAAPD expects that the Delaware ADRC will begin operation in Fall 2010. The ADRC will provide comprehensive information & assistance to older persons and adults with physical disabilities; service options counseling; and streamlined access to services. In addition, the ADRC will provide support in the hospital discharge planning process.

As part of this grant, DSAAPD also will be expected to carry out evaluation and quality assurance activities and develop a plan for ongoing operation and expansion of the ADRC.

DSAAPD is pleased to have received the commitment from a number of partner agencies to assist in planning and implementing Delaware's ADRC. These partner agencies include:

  • Division of Medicaid and Medical Assistance
  • Department of Insurance, ELDERinfo Program 
  • Freedom Center for Independent Living, Inc.
  • Independent Resources, Inc.
  • Delaware Aging Network
  • Christiana Care Health System
  • State Council for Persons with Disabilities
  • Governor's Advisory Council on Services for Aging and Adults with Physical Disabilities
