DPH ADDRESSES THE CHALLENGES OF OVERWEIGHT, OBESITY AND WEIGHT

Free Symposium brings experts to Delaware


The Delaware Division of Public Health's Office of Women's Health invites you to attend a free health symposium, "The Challenges of Overweight, Obesity and Weight - Control Among Women in Delaware". This symposium will be held at the MBNA Building at Delaware State University on Tuesday, June 17 from 8:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. and is open to all who are concerned about this critical public health issue and are interested in learning more about intervention and prevention strategies that work.

Guest physicians and other issue experts will present new research findings and information about the prevalence of overweight and obesity; environmental causes; successful medical, surgical and counseling treatments and prevention tactics; the history of our food supply; and best and promising practices in community interventions. Keynote speakers include Joel Fuhrman, M.D., a board-certified family physician from Flemington, N.J., and author of Eat to Live: the Revolutionary Plan for Fast and Sustained Weight Loss, and Mark D. Kligman, M.D., an expert in minimally invasive gastric bypass surgery. Dr. Kligman is head of Bariatric Surgery and director of the Center for Weight Management and Wellness at the University of Maryland Medical Center.

The event's primary sponsor, Delaware's Office of Women's Health, is raising awareness on this issue so that women and girls can achieve optimal health and wellness throughout their lives. Other sponsoring partners are: U.S. Office on Women’s Health, Region III; Delaware State University, Cooperative Extension Service, and Delaware Commission for Women.
