DELAWARE CANCER CONSORTIUM SEEKS COMMENTS ON ENVIRONMENTAL MONITORING PLAN
The Delaware Cancer Consortium seeks public comments on a plan for statewide environmental monitoring developed by the state Division of Public Health and the Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control. The consortium requested the multi-year plan in response to public concerns about pollution in Delaware. The plan, which outlines tracking and evaluation of a variety of substances in the air, water and soil, was presented to the consortium during its environmental committee meeting June 23.
To evaluate environmental cancer risks, the plan also addresses voluntary collection of human hair, blood and urine from Delawareans who are willing to participate. If approved, the proposed monitoring would begin with a pilot phase in 2009 and continue over a period of five years.
A copy of the plan may be obtained at http://www.delawarecancerconsortium.org/Environment-Minutes or by contacting:
