KITTS HUMMOCK RESIDENTS CAN RESUME USING HOUSEHOLD WATER
Pickering Beach Must Continue to Boil Water
Residents served by the Kitts Hummock Improvement Association water system outside of Dover may resume using their drinking water today following test results received by Delaware's Division of Public Health. Residents no longer need to boil water for drinking or cooking. The Delaware National Guard has been advised that its mobile water source or "water buffalo" can be removed from the community.
DPH issued a boil water notice for Kitts Hummock on May 16 after heavy rains and flooding fostered growth of E. coli bacteria in the community's water. The Kitts Hummock Improvement Association installed a continuous chlorinator. Water samples collected by DPH on June 4 and June 6 were absent for total coliform and E. coli bacteria.
The boil water advisory for Pickering Beach remains in effect as test results continue to indicate the presence of bacteria. Water system operators are re-disinfecting the well and distribution system this week and samples will be collected later this week.
Delaware Health and Social Services is committed to improving the quality of the lives of Delaware's citizens by promoting health and well-being, fostering self-sufficiency, and protecting vulnerable populations.
