Register Now for the 37th Summer Institute: Beyond the Diagnoses
University of Delaware, Clayton Hall - July 28 - August 1, 2008
New Castle, DE - Each July the Division of Substance Abuse and Mental Health's Training Section brings experts in promising practices, new research, and evidenced-bases practices in mental health and substance abuse travel from around the country to participate in this annual event. This year is no exception with Beyond the Diagnoses! Healing the whole person is at the heart of this year's Institute and promoting the belief that everything each of us needs to know for our own healing, as well as healing others, is around us - we simply haven't seen it yet.
The challenge to mental health service providers and consumers is to look beyond an individual's diagnoses and to create holistic and person-centered services. To focus exclusively on diagnoses fails to address the breadth of supports and services necessary for optimal recovery and the rich lives consumers engage in on a daily basis.
Research has proven that service providers, who have a broad perspective, taking into account the many facets of an individual, are more effective in engaging clients and assisting them in their recovery process.
The 37th Summer Institute is intended to inform, clarify and share central ideas and practices emerging within the dialogues on Beyond the Diagnosis. What are the central ideas of Beyond the Diagnosis.? What new ideas emerge about the nature of self, relationships, meaning, and knowledge? What is the relationship of diagnosis to constructivism, cognitive behavioral therapy, and systemic approaches? What is shared? What is different? What new ideas emerge about the nature of human problems, suffering, and therapeutic practice?Summer Institute This Summer Institute provides an array of opportunities to learn approaches that support recovery Beyond the Diagnoses. Topics include how to provide services that are trauma, gender, and culturally informed from a co-occurring perspective. We invite you to learn how to create recovery plans and deliver services that are guided by our clients and reflect their unique life goals across the life span.
