GOVERNOR TO HONOR OUTSTANDING VOLUNTEERS

Wilmington - On October 29th, Governor Jack Markell will honor the dedication of more than thirty individuals and groups by presenting the Governor's Outstanding Volunteer Service Awards October 29, 2009 at a dinner at Dover Downs.

"The recipients of the 27th annual Governor's Outstanding Volunteer Awards are not only strong leaders who demonstrate the power of giving, but they also inspire others to do the same," said Governor Markell. "It is very gratifying to see Delawareans from every part of the state volunteer their time in pursuit of building a better Delaware."

The recipients are impressive in their dedication to improving the quality of life for those around them. This year's winners participate in such diverse activities as advocating for people with developmental disabilities, mentoring students, as well as giving hope and help to others through outreach to those in need.

"These award recipients are the epitome of volunteerism and represent the many devoted volunteers who make positive contributions to the First State and inspire others to do the same," said Andy Kloepfer, Social Services Senior Administrator.

The night will consist of dinner followed by ceremony to honor the awardees for their exceptional volunteer and community service to Delaware. The event begins with a social hour at 5:00 p.m.

The Office of the Governor, Delaware Health and Social Services, the Division of State Service Centers, the State Office of Volunteerism, as well as the Governor's Commission on Community and Volunteer Service sponsor the Governor's Outstanding Volunteer Awards.

Delaware Health and Social Services is committed to improving the quality of the lives of Delaware's citizens by promoting health and well-being, fostering self-sufficiency, and protecting vulnerable populations.
