World Elder Abuse Awareness Day - June 15, 2009
About World Elder Abuse Awareness Day
Throughout the world, abuse and neglect of older persons is largely under-recognized. Elder abuse includes
physical, sexual, and psychological abuse, as well as the misuse of financial resources. In
addition to facing abuse in their own homes, elderly are also at risk of abuse in institutions such
as hopsitals, nursing homes and other long-term care facilities.
Please join the public call-to-action to observe the 4th Annual World Elder Abuse Awareness Day on June
15, 2009. The day is held in support of the United Nations International Plan of Action which recognizes
the significance of elder abuse as a public health and human rights issue. Show the world you care
about ending elder abuse and neglect by wearing something purple on that day.
