This press conference will serve as the formal kickoff of Delaware's health insurance marketplace and its outreach campaign to promote healthcare reform in the state. Less than a month remains before the marketplace opens for enrollment beginning on Oct. 1. Highlights from the multi-pronged media campaign will be shown.
DHSS Secretary Rita Landgraf and Insurance Commissioner Karen Weldin Stewart will detail the progress the state is making in increasing access to affordable health insurance for the 90,000 Delawareans who do not have insurance today. They also will detail outreach efforts, including marketplace guides, federal navigators, and assistance through Delaware's three federally qualified health centers. The state has contracted with four community organizations - Brandywine Women's Health Associates, Christiana Care, the Delmarva Foundation and Westside Family Healthcare - to provide assistance to individuals and small businesses across the state.
There will be an opportunity for one-on-one interviews with the speakers after the program.
Delaware Health and Social Services is committed to improving the quality of the lives of Delaware's citizens by promoting health and well-being, fostering self-sufficiency, and protecting vulnerable populations.
