Preventing Tobacco Use Among Delaware Youth
Because nearly all smokers start before age 25, our goal is to reduce the number of people who start smoking to avoid future health problems.
The Delaware Tobacco Prevention and Control Program works with community groups and schools to provide these anti-tobacco programs:
- Delaware Kick Butts Generation (KBG) — A youth-led program in schools and communities to counter tobacco marketing. KBG has developed its own website at www.ysmoke.org.
- Teens Against Tobacco Use (TATU) — an established curriculum about tobacco use taught by youth for youth.
- Not on Tobacco (NOT) — an American Lung Association program to help youth quit smoking.
- Smoke Screamers — A Boys and Girls Club tobacco prevention and educational program that contains a physical activity component.
We can also provide data about youth tobacco use. Survey data from our Youth Tobacco Survey and the Department of Education’s Youth Risk Behavior Survey (YRBS) are available on the University of Delaware’s youth data website.
