Infant Mortality Highlights
Key Facts
• Infants born to mothers who received no prenatal care had a higher mortality rate (45.9) than infants born to mothers who received prenatal care in the first trimester (8.0). (See Table E-7).
• Infants born to mothers who had another live birth less than 18 months earlier had a higher mortality rate (9.2) than infants born to mothers whose last live birth was 18 months ago or more (6.7). (See Table E-7).
• Infants born weighing less than 1500 grams (3 lbs 5 oz) had a mortality rate of 303.8 compared to 2.4 for infants born weighing 2500 grams (5 lbs 8 oz) or more. (See Table E-7).
• Infants born to mothers under 20 years of age had a higher mortality rate (11.9) than infants born to mothers 20 years of age and older (8.2). (See Table E-7).
• Infants born to single mothers had a higher mortality rate (12.2) than infants born to married mothers (6.6). (See Table E-7).
