Reported Pregnancies At 83.4 reported pregnancies per 1,000 women ages 15-44, the 2001-2005 rate of reported pregnancies changed very little from 2000-2004. Although pregnancy rates of black mothers were significantly higher than those of white mothers in every county, New Castle County’s difference between white (73.8) and black (105.6) was the largest among all the counties. For all races, the 25-29 year age group had the highest pregnancy rate, with 144 pregnancies per 1,000 women in 2000-2004. Black women under 30 had higher pregnancy rates than white women of the same age group; from age 30 and up, white women had higher pregnancy rates. From 2000-2004 to 2001-2005 teen (15-19) pregnancy rates for each race and county group declined, ranging from a decrease of .2 percent (for white teens in New Castle county) to 8.3 percent (for black teens in Kent county). The five-year average (2001-2005) pregnancy rate for 15-17 year olds was lowest in Kent County, with 35.4 pregnancies per 1,000 females, followed by Sussex County, with a rate of 40.3, and New Castle county, with a rate of 41.3. (See Table D-8). For each of the counties, the 2001-2005 rate was lower than its 2000-2004 rate. The five-year average (2001-2005) pregnancy rate for 18-19 year olds was lowest in New Castle County (105.2 pregnancies per 1,000 females), and highest in Sussex County (124.4). (See Table D-8). In 2005, there were 4,148 abortions performed in Delaware, 3,031 to Delaware residents and 1,117 to non-residents. Over half of all pregnancies to females under 15 ended in termination. 61.1 percent of pregnancies to white mothers under 15, and 50 percent of pregnancies to black mothers under 15 ended in terminations. Married women undergo significantly fewer terminations than their single counterparts. 4.1 percent of pregnancies to white married women ended in termination and 11 percent of pregnancies to black married women ended in termination. When the mothers were unmarried, these numbers increased to 32 and 36 percent respectively. There were 65 fetal deaths of Delaware residents in 2005. There were 11,603 live births to Delaware residents in 2005.
