DELAWARE HOSPITAL ALERT<!--[END]-->\n\n<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<!--[type=HTMLEDIT name=\"Content\"]-->\n\n\n\n<p>\n\n\n  The Department of Homeland Security issued a Code Orange &#8211; High Threat Alert today, Feb. 7, 2003. The High Threat Alert informed all\n\n\n  states that intelligence reports indicate potential for terrorist attacks to domestic finance, transportation and energy sectors. State\n\n\n  and local governments are advised to increase security at state and federal buildings, monuments, hospitals and high traffic locations.\n\n\n<\/p>\n\n\n<p>\n\n\n  <strong>NO SPECIFIC THREAT HAS BEEN RECEIVED AND NO SPECIFIC LOCATIONS OR WEAPONS HAVE BEEN INDICATED<\/strong>. Agents ranging from\n\n\n  biological, chemical and radiological remain on the threat list and require advance response preparation.\n\n\n<\/p>\n\n\n<p>\n\n\n  Delaware&#8217;s Division of Public Health (DPH) issues the following recommendations and protective actions to all Delaware hospitals to\n\n\n  assure adequate advance preparation and response capabilities.\n\n\n<\/p>\n\n\n<p>\n\n\n  Each hospital should assure that this HAN alert, and those issued in the future, be provided to its emergency department, infection\n\n\n  control program, laboratory, public information officer, director of nursing and head nurse. Subsequent HAN alerts will be sent to\n\n\n  address signs and symptoms, as well as treatment protocols for potential terrorist agents.\n\n\n<\/p>\n\n\n<h3>\n\n\n  RECOMMENDATIONS\n\n\n<\/h3>\n\n\n<h4>\n\n\n  Assure Hospital Safety and Security\n\n\n<\/h4>\n\n\n<ul>\n\n\n  <li>Protect air handling system intakes\n\n\n  <\/li>\n\n\n  <li>Protect liquid oxygen supply\n\n\n  <\/li>\n\n\n  <li>Require all vendors to schedule deliveries\n\n\n  <\/li>\n\n\n  <li>Hold unscheduled deliveries at least 1500 feet from the facility\n\n\n  <\/li>\n\n\n  <li>Heighten security around loading docks\n\n\n  <\/li>\n\n\n  <li>Increase visibility of security\n\n\n  <\/li>\n\n\n  <li>Review facility lock-down procedures\n\n\n  <\/li>\n\n\n  <li>Removal of facility\/site plans from web sites\n\n\n  <\/li>\n\n\n<\/ul>\n\n\n<h4>\n\n\n  Begin DAILY Syndromic Surveillance Reporting\n\n\n<\/h4>\n\n\n<p>\n\n\n  Use usual system (DPH epidemiologists will contract each hospital&#8217;s infection control staff)\n\n\n<\/p>\n\n\n<h4>\n\n\n  Provide a Specific Contact Person for Each Facility.\n\n\n<\/h4>\n\n\n<p>\n\n\n  Identify a hospital decision-maker responsible for coordinating future information and preparedness and response activities. Please\n\n\n  indicate a method of contact and the number.
