As of the end of January 2010, greater than 1,500 cases had been reported. To date, Delaware Division of Public Health (DPH)\n\n\n  has not investigated or confirmed any associated cases.\n\n\n<\/p>\n\n\n<h3>\n\n\n  Background\n\n\n<\/h3>\n\n\n<p>\n\n\n  The outbreak began in New York in June 2009. The index case returned to NY June 17, 2009 from a trip to the United Kingdom, where\n\n\n  approximately 7,400 cases of mumps have been laboratory-confirmed. The case then attended a New York summer camp for tradition-observant\n\n\n  Jewish boys, where he became symptomatic on June 28, 2009. Subsequent camp attendees and staff members became infected with mumps and\n\n\n  transmission continued in multiple locations when the camp attendees returned home. The outbreak has primarily affected the\n\n\n  tradition-observant Jewish community, with less than 3% of cases occurring among persons outside the community.
