In the field of cancer registry\n\n\n  management, any data\/information that is patient identifiable is considered confidential. The Health Insurance Portability and\n\n\n  Accountability Act (HIPAA) of 1996 is to protect the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of an individual&#8217;s protected health\n\n\n  information.\n\n\n<\/p>\n\n\n<p>\n\n\n  Certain uses such as for Treatment, Payment and Health care Operations (TPO) are permitted:\n\n\n<\/p>\n\n\n<ul>\n\n\n  <li>Treatment of the client, including appointment reminders and referrals;\n\n\n  <\/li>\n\n\n  <li>Payment of health care bills (claim submission, authorizations and payment posting);\n\n\n  <\/li>\n\n\n  <li>Health Care Operations and business operations, including, teaching and medical staff quality activities.\n\n\n  <\/li>\n\n\n<\/ul>\n\n\n<p>\n\n\n  Delaware Cancer Registry (DCR) workforce routinely collect, evaluate, interpret and disclose protected health information. Consequently,\n\n\n  DCR workforce are bound by the regulations and laws applicable to accessing, using and disclosing confidential information, and the\n\n\n  processes and technologies required for protecting the privacy and security of this information.
