Tasks including sanding, painting and\r\n\r\n\r\n        metal fabrication all come with serious long-term and immediate dangers.\r\n\r\n\r\n      <\/p>Hazards in Auto Body and Paint Shops\r\n\r\n\r\n      <ul>\r\n\r\n\r\n        <li>CANCER:\r\n\r\n\r\n          <ul>\r\n\r\n\r\n            <li>Sanding and finishing can expose workers to silica, which can cause lung cancer.\r\n\r\n\r\n            <\/li>\r\n\r\n\r\n            <li>Solvents, paints and other products can contain chemicals that are linked to cancer.\r\n\r\n\r\n            <\/li>\r\n\r\n\r\n          <\/ul>\r\n\r\n\r\n        <\/li>\r\n\r\n\r\n        <li>RESPIRATORY PROBLEMS:\r\n\r\n\r\n          <ul>\r\n\r\n\r\n            <li>Silicosis &#8211; Exposure to silica dust can lead to permanent lung damage\r\n\r\n\r\n            <\/li>\r\n\r\n\r\n            <li>Asthma &#8211; Isocyanates, ingredients in paints and spray-on protective coatings (i.e. bedliners) are a leading cause of\r\n\r\n\r\n            occupational asthma.\r\n\r\n\r\n            <\/li>\r\n\r\n\r\n          <\/ul>\r\n\r\n\r\n        <\/li>\r\n\r\n\r\n        <li>INJURY AND ILLNESS:\r\n\r\n\r\n          <ul>\r\n\r\n\r\n            <li>Exposure to automotive exhaust, particularly in enclosed spaces, can cause short and long term health problems.\r\n\r\n\r\n            <\/li>\r\n\r\n\r\n            <li>Working around vehicles increases the risk of physical injury, including struck-by and crushing injuries.\r\n\r\n\r\n            <\/li>\r\n\r\n\r\n          <\/ul>\r\n\r\n\r\n        <\/li>\r\n\r\n\r\n      <\/ul>\r\n\r\n\r\n      <h2>\r\n\r\n\r\n        Preventing Exposures and Lowering Your Risk\r\n\r\n\r\n      <\/h2>\r\n\r\n\r\n      <ul>\r\n\r\n\r\n        <li>EDUCATION:\r\n\r\n\r\n          <ul>\r\n\r\n\r\n            <li>Review the MSDS Sheets for the chemicals and products you work with.\r\n\r\n\r\n            <\/li>\r\n\r\n\r\n            <li>Do not accept shipments of new chemicals unless MSDS&#8217;s are provided.\r\n\r\n\r\n            <\/li>\r\n\r\n\r\n            <li>Know the proper procedures for the equipment and materials you use and <em>follow them!<\/em>\r\n\r\n\r\n            <\/li>\r\n\r\n\r\n          <\/ul>\r\n\r\n\r\n        <\/li>\r\n\r\n\r\n        <li>AWARENESS:\r\n\r\n\r\n          <ul>\r\n\r\n\r\n            <li>Inspect your work area and equipment regularly.
