Individually identifiable health information that\n\n\n  is maintained or transmitted in any form or medium. The Federal privacy regulations promulgated under the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) of 1996\n\n\n  that created national standards to protect medical records and other protected health information.\n\n\n<\/p><br>\n\n\n<h3>\n\n\n  HIPAA for Researchers\n\n\n<\/h3>\n\n\n<p>\n\n\n  Research organizations and researchers may or may not be covered by the HIPAA Privacy Rule.
