Delaware Paramedic Education and Licensure
The paramedic program offered by Delaware Technical Community College through their Allied Health Department is the only program in Delaware recognized and supported by the Delaware Office of Emergency Medical Services (OEMS). This program consists of 79 credits of coursework, completed over six semesters, leading to an Associate in Applied Science Degree. It follows the Paramedic National EMS Education Standards and meets all requirements for paramedic certification by the State of Delaware and the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians. The DelawareTech Paramedic Program is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs upon the recommendation of the Committee on Accreditation of Educational Programs for the Emergency Medical Services Professions (CoAEMSP). Please see the Program website for more information. The employment outlook for Program graduates is very good. They often find employment with one of Delaware’s Advanced Life Support Agencies.
The State of Delaware requires all paramedics be affiliated with a Delaware approved ALS provider agency prior to beginning the state certification and licensure process. This process requires meeting all of the education requirements of the Office of Emergency Medical Services and the Delaware Division of Professional Regulation, Board of Medical Licensure and Discipline. All paramedics practicing in Delaware must hold and maintain the following certifications:
- National Registry of EMTs Paramedic
- Basic Cardiac Life Support – Healthcare Provider
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support OR Pediatric Education for Prehospital Professionals
- Prehospital Trauma Life Support OR International Trauma Life Support (Replaces Basic Trauma Life Support)
