What is a Qualified Medicare Beneficiary (QMB)?

A Qualified Medicare Beneficiary (QMB) is a Medicare beneficiary who, because of low income and limited financial resources, qualifies to have certain medical expenses covered at no additional cost.

If you are a Medicare beneficiary, you should know about programs that may help you pay part of your medical expenses.  If you qualify, you may not have to pay Medicare premiums or certain out-of-pocket costs. In addition to the QMB program, there are other similar programs, including Specified Low-Income Medicare Beneficiary (SLMB); Qualifying Individual (QI-1); and Qualified Disabled and Working Individual (QDWI) .

To Qualify

To qualify for one of these programs, you must:

  1. Have Medicare Part A;
  2. Meet certain income limits;
  3. Meet financial resource limits.

More information about  eligibility is available from the Qualified Medicare Beneficiary Programs page on the Delaware Division of Medicaid and Medical Assistance (DMMA) web site.

To Apply

Contact the DMMA office in your local area or apply online using ASSIST .
