Delaware Receives NAACCR Gold Certification

In June 2019, Delaware again received the North American Association of Central Cancer Registries (NAACCR) Gold Standard certification. Cancer registries that meet the Gold Standard for Registry Certification have achieved the highest NAACCR (pronounced nay'-sir) standard for complete, accurate, and timely data to calculate standard incidence statistics for the year reviewed. This is the seal of approval to use 2016 cancer incidence data collected by the Delaware Cancer Registry in cancer surveillance and control efforts in Delaware and nationally. This is the fourteenth consecutive year that the Delaware Cancer Registry has received Gold Standard certification.

NAACCR is a collaborative umbrella organization for cancer registries, governmental agencies, professional organizations, and private groups in North America interested in enhancing the quality and use of cancer registry data. NAACCR develops and promotes uniform data standards for cancer registration; provides education and training; certifies population-based registries; aggregates and publishes data from central cancer registries; and encourages the use of cancer surveillance data and systems for cancer control and epidemiologic research, public health programs, and patient care to reduce the burden of cancer in North America. All state and provincial central cancer registries in the United States and Canada are members of NAACCR and voluntarily submit their cancer data to the organization annually for purposes of accreditation.
