Meet the Panelists:




Nancy Karibjanian ~ Moderator

Nancy Karibjanian joined WHYY's Wilmington News Team in 1985 as a Producer/Reporter covering the State Legislature. In 1986 she was promoted to Anchor and News Director hosting the nightly 5:30 Delaware News and managing the Wilmington news staff. With the arrival of her third child in 1994 Nancy assumed part time responsibilities. In March 2007 she left the anchor position to dedicate more time to her family.

As WHYY's Delaware News Anchor for 21 years, Nancy moderated election debates, hosted WHYY specials focusing on Wilmington and the state of Delaware, and conducted interviews with local policy makers and residents alike.

Still a part of the WHYY News team, Nancy hosts weekly Newsmaker interviews and "The Delaware Tonight Friday Forum." Nancy is currently an adjunct professor at the University of Delaware teaching Broadcast Journalism.

A graduate of the University of Delaware, Nancy and her husband Joe are the proud parents of JJ, Amanda, and Maggie.

Elisabeth Bradley is the Clinical Leader for the Women's Heart Program at Christiana Care Health System. Beth has practiced as an Advanced Practice Nurse at Christiana Care since 1993, in both cardiology and critical care. She has been instrumental in providing advanced practice nursing consultation for complex patients, establishing evidence based clinical practice guidelines and coordinating cardiovascular outreach activities. Additionally, Beth is a certified hypnotherapist and a consultant within Christiana Care for hypnosis and guided imagery as a complement to conventional medical care.

Beth was the co-principal investigator for a research utilization study using guided imagery for patients undergoing cardiac catheterization procedures, cardiac surgery and patients in a multidisciplinary intensive care unit. She subsequently spearheaded hospital wide implementation of guided imagery at Christiana Care. Beth has lectured nationally on guided imagery and hypnosis with an emphasis on strategies for incorporating mind-body therapies into practice, based on the research evidence and practical clinical experience.

Kathleen W. McNicholas, M.D. is the associate chief of Cardiac Surgery and has been a member of the open-heart team at Christiana Care Health System since its inception. Prior to that, she was director of Pediatric Cardiovascular at Deborah Heart & Lung Center in New Jersey.

Dr. McNicholas is a Philadelphia native and graduated with honors from Chestnut Hill College and magna cum laude from Jefferson Medical College. Her training in general and cardiac surgery were completed at Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center in New York. She served as a surgical house officer at the Hospital for Sick Children at Great Ormond Street and following her residency was Senior Registrar in pediatric cardiac surgery in London.

She has a strong interest in pediatric and adult congenital heart surgery as well as in the surgical treatment of acquired heart disease and mechanical circulatory support for the failing heart. Her research interests are varied and she has been principal investigator in numerous studies involving heart valves and adjunctive therapies. She has been the author and co-author of numerous professional publications. She is a member and fellow of numerous societies and organizations including the American College of Surgeons, The American College of Chest Physicians, The American College of Cardiology and the Delaware Academy of Medicine. She has served on the boards of the American Heart Association and the Delaware Academy of Medicine as well as community organizations including Mom’s House and her Alma mater, Mount St. Joseph Academy. She has strong personal and professional interests in women and heart disease and is a frequent speaker on that and other topics.

Danielle Jerome is a registered dietitian at Christiana Care's Preventive Medicine & Rehabilitation Institute specializing in the areas of Weight Management, Cardiac Rehabilitation, and Renal disease. She is also actively involved with the Delaware Dietetic Association in promoting the nutrition profession. At Christiana Care, she has worked to improve the health of our community through individual and group counseling, teaching classes, lectures, grocery store tours, and mentoring nutrition interns at the University of Delaware.
