Delaware Adolescent Health Program

Adolescence is a life stage characterized by significant change and transition. The health and well-being of adolescents is shaped by variety of internal and external factors. Young people need guidance, support and encouragement that fosters healthy development. Delaware’s Adolescent Health Program emphasizes a youth development approach in viewing this critical time period. The underlying philosophy of youth development is holistic, preventative and positive, focusing on the development of assets and competencies in youth as the best means for fostering health and well-being and for avoiding negative choices and outcomes.

Delaware’s Adolescent Health Program serves as a resource:

  • To implement strategies to enhance the overall health of youth, adolescents and young adults, ages 12-24
  • To promote services and policies that are formed from a holistic youth development approach
  • To create partnerships with state, federal, foundation, academic, faith-based and statewide organizations across a broad range of adolescent health issues
