The 2021 national data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) shows that Delaware has the third highest rate of drug overdose deaths in the country. Restaurants were identified as one of the industries whose workforce had high incidence of overdose.  The Office of Health Crisis Response (OHCR) at the Division of Public Health (DPH) commissioned the Restaurant Accolade Program to assist the restaurant industry with addressing the drug overdose crisis by equipping restaurant employees with knowledge, skills, and resources, such as Narcan kits, to reduce deaths.

Interested in receiving simple training to carry Narcan on your premises to potentially assist an employee or customer and prevent an overdose death?

Contact us at OHCR@delaware.gov today to be a part of our Restaurant Accolade Program which will recognize your efforts under three levels:

• Bronze: Restaurant employees receive overdose prevention training and Narcan is readily available on site (training provided by DPH free of charge).
• Silver: Completion of bronze criteria plus having 1-2 workers trained to be a support lead to assist linking those in need to resources.
• Gold: Completion of bronze and silver criteria; additionally, restaurant has implemented policies in support of individuals with SUD and trained all staff on them. Restaurant provides staff a reasonable amount of time to participate in treatment and has protocols in place for continued employment options for staff who experience SUD.

In order to attain all levels, you will receive free training and support from DPH or partner organizations.
