BRIGHT SPOT URBAN FARM POINSETTIA SALE UNDER WAY AT DHSS GREENHOUSE; BENEFITS YOUNG PEOPLE AGING OUT OF FOSTER CARE AND FORMER CLIENTS AT DPC

NEW CASTLE (Nov. 22, 2016) - Bright Spot Urban Farm, which supports young people aging out of foster care and former clients of the Delaware Psychiatric Center, has turned the DHSS Greenhouse into a colorful sea of red, pink and white poinsettias for sale this holiday season.

Bright Spot Farms, a social enterprise founded by West End Neighborhood House, employs, empowers and equips young people aging out of foster care and adults with disabilities. Employees have grown 2,500 poinsettias for sale in the DHSS Greenhouse on the Herman Holloway Campus near New Castle.

Available in red, white and pink, the 6.5-inch pots have to four to six blooms ($8.95 each, including pot cover and sleeve); in hanging baskets ($25); and large floor pots with multiple plants ($29.99). In addition to the traditional colors, the greenhouse also offers poinsettias in burgundy, sparkle and marble.

"Buying poinsettias for your home, workplace or church is a great way to celebrate the holidays and to support employment opportunities for young people aging out of foster care and adults with disabilities as they learn about horticulture and business," DHSS Secretary Rita Landgraf said. "We are so appreciative of our partnership with Bright Spot and the difference this program is making in our community."

Orders can be made by phone at 302-658-4171, ext. 261, online at Bright Spot's website or by emailing brightspotventures@gmail.com. Orders of 25 or more individual poinsettia pots ($7.95 each) are delivered for no additional charge to one location in New Castle County.

This year, Bright Spot will have specific days for walk-in sales at the greenhouse, 1901 N. DuPont Highway (U.S. 13) on the Herman Holloway Campus. Follow the signs for the greenhouse. Walk-in sales dates and times are: Dec. 9 (noon-6 p.m.); Dec. 10 (9 a.m.-1 p.m.); and Dec. 19-22 (noon-6 p.m.). To make an appointment to buy or pick up poinsettias outside of those dates, call 302-658-4171 x261. Bright Spot accepts cash, check or credit card.
