WHAT: | The Division of Public Health (DPH) Office of Emergency Medical Service (OEMS) and the Department of Safety and Homeland Security (DSHS) are providing life-saving training to Delaware's three casinos and other sites to use during violent intruder incidents and bleeding emergencies. Instructors will teach participants multiple lifesaving techniques, including how to prepare for a situation involving a violent intruder, how to apply a tourniquet correctly to stop major bleeding, how to pack bleeding wounds, and how to use other bleeding control methods, with and without medical materials. |

VIPR Instructor Master Corporal Angela Garnsey, DSHS' Division of Gaming Enforcement. Stop the Bleed Instructors Karen Terzaghi and Robin Brown, DPH Office of Emergency Medical Services. Approximately 1,000 Dover Downs employees are being trained this week at two daytime trainings and one evening training. Each training is one and a half hours. DSHS and OEMS have already completed trainings at Harrington Raceway and Casino and at Delaware Park Race Track and Casino. |

The Violent Intruder Preparedness Response (VIPR) training is proactive. It teaches participants how to react and act during such a scenario. Instruction is focused on the Run. Hide. Fight. strategy. Stop the Bleed training is intended to encourage bystanders to act when a bleeding emergency occurs by training, equipping, and empowering them. |
