Smyrna Adult Day Services Program Holds Ribbon-Cutting Ceremony

The Smyrna Adult Day Services Program, operated by the Delaware Division of Services for Aging and Adults with Physical Disabilities (DSAAPD), held a ribbon-cutting ceremony on March 19, 2018 to commemorate the opening of its new location at 699 South Carter Road in Smyrna.

DSAAPD Director Dava Newnam welcomed guest speakers Delaware Health and Social Services Secretary Dr. Kara Odom Walker and Lieutenant Governor Bethany Hall-Long. Dr. Walker described the importance of community-based programs like Smyrna Adult Day Services to support people who might otherwise have to live in nursing homes. Given the future growth of the older population in Delaware, she added, programs like Smyrna Adult Day will continue to be greatly needed. Lt. Governor Hall-Long stressed the value of adult day programs for family caregivers and noted that several slots are still available for new participants to join the program in Smyrna. Both speakers congratulated the DSAAPD leadership and Smyrna Adult Day staff for their work in establishing the program in its attractive and welcoming new home.
