In Fiscal Year (FY) 2020 the Department of Health & Social Services (DHSS) was tasked through the FY 2020 Budget Bill to take an extensive look at the various services, rates, and methodologies throughout the department. DHSS views this as an opportunity to really examine the services and compensation methods throughout the department. The results from this study, the Independent Study of Rate Methodologies for Services delivered by the Divisions within DHSS, were published in June 2020 and presented to stakeholders in August 2020.
The intent of this project and effort is to broaden our understanding of how rates are set and the various data elements that go into them. DHSS aims to understand what would be needed to modernize is rate setting methodologies and how to improve collaborations with providers to update methodologies at appropriate times. The Rate Methodology work is intended to provide transparent and consistent information across divisions and services for how those rates are set and the process to update them. Changes to the rates paid will continue to be subject to available funding.
