WHO: Lt. Governor Matt Denn
Secretary Rita Landgraf, Delaware Health and Social Services
Secretary Jeffrey Bullock, Delaware Department of State
Division Director Karyl Rattay, MD, Delaware Division of Public Health
Immediate Past President Randeep Kahlon, MD, Medical Society of Delaware
WHAT: Prescription Drug Take-Back Day announcement and sharing of Prescription Drug Action Committee (PDAC) recommendations. PDAC is led by the Delaware Division of Public Health and the Medical Society of Delaware with the goal of providing real-world, practical proposals to address the prescription drug epidemic. The state ranked ninth in the country for the number of drug overdoses in 2009 (the most recent data we have available). And, of the drug overdoses in Delaware, 80 percent of them involve one or more prescription drugs. Mortality rates in which prescription drugs were implicated increased nearly four-fold between 1999 and 2009.

PDAC is a broad and diverse group that includes physicians, community-based organizations, behavioral health partners, hospital systems, pain management specialists, law enforcement, pharmaceutical representatives, medical professional regulators, retail pharmacy representation as well as public and private payers.

For more on PDAC, visit dhss.delaware.gov/dhss/dph/pdachome.html. For more information on the Healthy Homes Program, visit dhss.delaware.gov/dhss/dph/hsp/healthyhomes.html.
