2012 Radon Poster Contest

The Delaware Division of Public Health’s Radon Program is holding the annual 2012 Delaware Radon Poster Contest to help make children and their families aware of radon. This contest highlights the risks posed by indoor exposure to radon.

According to the U.S. Surgeon General, radon is the second leading cause of lung cancer after cigarette smoking and the number one cause of lung cancer in non-smokers. The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency estimates that radon causes about 20,000 deaths from lung cancer annually in the United States.

We invite your school or club to participate in the 2012 Delaware Radon Poster Contest. The contest is open for all children ages 9-13 (on April 1, 2012). Entries will be accepted from January 1, 2012 through March 31, 2012, with the top three (3) winners selected in April. Each of the three winners will receive an Apple iPod® Shuffle courtesy of Comcast Spotlight.

The top three entries will also be automatically entered in the National Radon Contest (for ages 9-14) in October, 2012. The winner of the National Poster Contest along with a parent and sponsor will receive an all-expense paid trip to Washington, D.C., to attend the national award ceremony in January 2013.
