Paying attention to your health and wellness is an essential activity during all phases of your life. A women’s body goes through significant changes over her lifetime. Due to the many stages in a women’s life, it is very important for women to receive regular check-ups, and follow through with annual screenings. Learning how to take care of our bodies is a life-long process. Ensuring that we eat a balanced and healthy diet, exercise, and take care of our mental health is essential. Most important, is the need to listen to any signs your body is giving you that indicate something may be wrong. You know your body best, listen to it and act on what it’s telling you. See your physician if you have any questions or doubts about your health. The old adage “An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure” is very true.
If you have a new health insurance plan or insurance policy beginning on or after September 23, 2010, the following preventive services must be covered without your having to pay a copayment or co-insurance or meet your deductible. This applies only when these services are delivered by a network provider.
Women’s health needs often differ from that of men. Sometimes it is a subtle difference, sometimes more pronounced, particularly as it relates to our reproductive health. The National Institute of Health published an article which outlines these differences in detail; "Sex and gender differences in health Science & Society Series on Sex and Science", EMBO Rep. 2012 Jul; 13(7): 596–603., Published online 2012 Jun 15. doi: 10.1038/embor.2012.87, PMCID: PMC3388783, PMID: 22699937, Science and Society.
