The Office of Women’s Health (OWH) addresses women’s health issues across their lifespan through forums, programs, and initiatives designed to educate the public regarding women’s health and healthy lifestyles. The OWH serves as a resource for information regarding women’s health data, strategies, services, and programs to include concerns relating to adolescent, reproductive, menopausal, and postmenopausal phases of a woman’s life.
Housed within the Office of Women’s Health is the Rape Prevention and Education (RPE) Program. The focus of this program is the primary prevention of sexual assault, intimate partner violence, stalking and sex trafficking. The OWH partners with the Sexual Assault Network of Delaware, the Delaware Coalition Against Domestic Violence, and Jewish Family Services of Delaware to conduct outreach and education to at-risk populations in Delaware such as college campuses, high school age youth, LGBT communities and various racial minorities throughout the state.
The RPE Leadership Team recently held a conference at Delaware State University to highlight April as Sexual Assault Awareness and Prevention Month. Please read the proclamation signed by Governor John Carney and Lt Governor Bethany Hall-Long.
The OWH’s focus spans the lifetime of a woman, from adolescents through postmenopausal stages. The office has made significant strides in improving the health of Delaware women by partnering with other public health sections, such as Family Planning, Screening for Life, DPH HIV/AIDS Program and the WIC Program. Additional community partners are the Breastfeeding Coalition of Delaware, Delaware’s Breast Cancer Coalition, La Red Health Center, Delaware Coalition Against Domestic Violence and Jewish Family Services of Delaware. Some of the outreach programs are comprised of promoting healthy living through health fairs, literature, conferences, trainings and screenings. Accomplishments include increasing the awareness about cancer and other diseases, raising the numbers of breastfeeding mothers, and increasing the health and life expectancy of newborns in Delaware.
