Dental Benefits under the Delaware Healthy Children Program

The Delaware Division of Medicaid & Medical Assistance (DMMA) is pleased to announce that we are now able to provide a comprehensive package of dental benefits for all children covered by the Delaware Healthy Children Program (DHCP), a low cost health insurance program for Delaware's uninsured children. Covered services include preventive, diagnostic and restorative dental procedures provided by approximately 180 participating dentists located across Delaware. Letters announcing the new dental coverage were mailed to Delaware families with DHCP members in early March, with a list of participating dentists enclosed.

The expansion of the Delaware Healthy Children Program (DHCP) to cover dental services was enacted by the Delaware State Legislature in June, 2006, and signed by Governor Minner on July 10, 2006. Because DHCP is an SCHIP program jointly funded by Delaware and the federal government, the addition of dental services also required the recent approval by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS).

DHCP-eligible children will receive a comprehensive package of dental services including oral exams, x-rays, cleanings, fluoride applications, fillings, and other restorative and specialty services.  Orthodontic care is also available for children who meet specific program guidelines.  Processing of dental claims began on March 12th.
