The kits include Naloxone (Narcan), resources, and information on how to use it in an overdose situation.     Naloxone (Narcan) is a lifesaving medication that can reverse an opioid overdose within minutes while it’s happening. Anyone can get it and carry it, whether you use opioids yourself, have friends or family members who do, or may encounter someone experiencing an overdose. Keep naloxone (Narcan) nearby so you’re always prepared to help save a life.

    You can get free Naloxone (Narcan) at Division of Substance Abuse and Mental Health (DSAMH) Bridge Clinics, by attending a DSAMH training event, or by requesting it via mail. Naloxone (Narcan) is also available from many pharmacies. Click here to find out where to get your free kit today.

    Naloxone (Narcan) is easy to use, and instructions are included with each opioid rescue kit. But here’s a quick way to remember the steps:

    1. Peel

    Peel back the package to remove the device. Hold the device with your thumb on the bottom of the plunger and two fingers on the nozzle.

    2. Place

    Place and hold the tip of the nozzle in either nostril until your fingers touch the bottom of the patient’s nose.

    3. Press

    Press the plunger firmly to release the dose into the patient’s nose.

    Delaware has two Good Samaritan laws that offer criminal and civil protection for individuals acting in good faith to assist someone who has overdosed from drugs or alcohol. You cannot be arrested. Read more about them.

    There are currently 5 vending machines throughout the state that contain Naloxone (Narcan) and other free harm reduction items to anyone who needs them. The vending machines are available 24 hrs. a day, 7 days a week.
