Construction is a sign of progress and is a vital part of our society. The many areas of the construction industry, and the many workers that it employs, means there are a large number of potential hazards to be mindful of.

Hazards in the construction industry can include:

    • Working in dusty environments
    • Working in areas of environmental (soil and water) contamination
    • Working with paints, finishes and solvents
    • Working with and around heavy equipment and machinery
    • Working at heights and in confined spaces

    Education:

    • Provide training that helps employees avoid accidents and injuries.
    • Prepare Healthy and Safety Plans that outline all procedures on the job site.

    Awareness:

    • Tailgate safety meetings take a few minutes each day, but gives you an oppurtunity to bring issues to the crews attention. And gives them the oppurtunity to point out issues to you, before they become a problem.
    • Encourage workers to be aware and report unsafe conditions and actions.
